Since the beginnings of spark erosion, we have participated with great success in the continuing development of the technology and the associated improvement in manufacturing processes in the area of mold and tool making. With the functional coatings we’ve developed for EDM wire, enormous increases in the removal rate can be achieved. The resulting increase in productivity is enormous: In tough everyday use, this can lead to 20 percent shorter machine running times. And this does affect production costs. The use of coated wire in spark erosion has the potential to reduce production costs by up to 20 percent.

Advantages of coated EDM wire

Coated bedra wire electrodes achieve a higher working speed compared to conventional plain wires. In addition, our coated EDM wires achieve an excellent surface quality for the workpiece. So quality, economy, and productivity go hand in hand when using coated EDM wires. An example: Compared to conventional brass wire, using topas® plus X or topas® plus D can increase processing speed by up to 50 percent.

 

Further advantages are offered by the patented bedra spool. With its 12-corner design, the spool is effectively secured against rolling away. With this in mind, it’s not surprising that well-known customers in all regions of the world rely on our coated wire electrodes.

Overview of our product program

Our EDM high-performance electrodes cover the entire spectrum for spark erosion. 

The betterbrass, megacut® pro TWO and the bercocut® series cover the range of plain brass wires. These are subject to the same demanding quality standards as our coated EDM-wires, so they also guarantee safe working conditions.

bedra offers a wide range of coated EDM wires. The topas®plus series is a generation of high-speed cutting wires with an outstanding price-performance ratio. It can be used universally on all conventional EDM machines, and offers bedra’s familiar high quality. Coated wire electrodes of the cobracut® series have been developed jointly with Agie for erosion cutting machines. They are suitable for various machine models and for the full range of applications. We developed our high-quality, coated megacut® EDM wires especially for Japanese erosion cutting machines. gapstar® ONE is the new high performance wire with the bedra TRIMPAC technology.

Microerosive cutting processes place the highest demands on precision and process reliability. Super-fine EDM-wires of the microcut®family combine the highest tensile strength with the tightest tolerances, for diameters smaller than a human hair.

The revolution for plain brass wires
bedra combines a better continuous casting process with better heat treatment methodologies to create an unparalleled new EDM wire: betterbrass. Our engineers created a plain wire electrode comprised of a completely new alloy that delivers up to 10% faster cutting speeds than traditional brass wire. betterbrass utilizes innovative and efficient production processes to deliver performance never before seen in a traditional brass wire.

The second generation brass wire for Japanes EDM machines. The original megacut® pro was introduced 10 years ago and was based on the then state of the art of Japanese machines. megacut® pro TWO is now the result of a careful adaptation of the wire properties to the conditions of the most modern machine series of Japanese OEMs.

Our range of high-performance wire electrodes covers the entire range. With the bercocut® series, it also includes bare brass wires. These are subject to the same strict quality standards as the coated products, so they make for reliable working conditions.

Storage and changed direction of unwinding of our EDM spools

The warranty period for all our EDM wires is 12 months after date of manufacturing. Please note the following information on proper storage and the changed direction of unwinding of our EDM spools:

1. Always store spools in their original packaging in a dry area and in a horizontal way
The spools are packed in shock, dust and oxidation-proof material to protect the wire from shipping damage and contamination. The wire should be stored in the original packaging until ready for use. This will ensure the highest quality for your EDM applications. The storage of the EDM spools should also always be stored in a horizontal manner to prevent loosening / falling of individual turns of wire and thus disturbances during unwinding. Warranty will lapse in case of improper storage.

2. Used EDM spools handling procedures
It is very important to properly secure the loose end of the wire on partially used spools. This will prevent the wire from shifting on the spool and becoming tangled. Improper handling and storage techniques can cause unwinding problems and unnecessary wire breakage. Figures 1 and 2 show two correct ways to secure the loose end of the wire. Figures 3 and 4 show incorrect ways and should definitely be avoided. Partially used spools should be stored in their original packaging material when not in use. This will minimize contamination and shifting of the wire on the spool.

3. Changed direction of unwinding of our EDM spools.
Please note that since 01.12.2018 the direction of unwinding of our EDM wires has been changed, so that the spool label is directed towards the operator on the majority of EDM machines. Further information can be found here.
