Trim cut

Trim cut

A trim cut is a machining step in wire EDM that follows the main cut. Its purpose is to improve dimensional accuracy, parallelism and surface quality of the component.

Depending on the workpiece, machine and quality requirements, one or several trim cuts may be used. Less material is usually removed than in the main cut, while precise correction of the surface and contour becomes the main focus.

For bedra EDM wires, the trim cut is an important application area because cutting performance and surface quality must remain stable across several cuts. Modern coatings such as blac technology are therefore relevant for both the main cut and the first trim cuts.
