Temper colors

Temper colors

Temper colors occur when a metal is heated and an oxide layer forms on its surface. These colors are characteristic and provide information about the temperature of the workpiece during heat treatment. The colors are a result of the varying light reflections and color changes of the oxide layer as temperature increases. Temper colors are commonly used for visual temperature control, especially in processes like the annealing of steel.
