Stress relief heat treatment

Stress relief heat treatment

Stress relief heat treatment is a thermal process to reduce internal stresses in a workpiece. It is typically performed at temperatures between 550 and 650 °C to minimize the risk of distortion or cracking during subsequent machining. Internal stresses often result from mechanical processing, welding, or casting. Controlled heating and slow cooling relieve these stresses without significantly altering the microstructure.
