The main cut is the first and usually most material-intensive cutting operation in wire EDM. It largely determines how quickly and reliably a component is cut from the workpiece.
During the main cut, cutting performance, wire stability, flushing behavior and process reliability are especially important. Errors or instabilities in this step can affect later trim cuts, surface quality and production time.
bedra develops EDM wires that support the main cut through suitable materials, coatings and mechanical properties. Technologies such as TRIMPAC® or blac technology show that the main cut should always be considered as an interaction of wire, machine and application.
