Coated EDM wire

Coated EDM wire

A coated EDM wire is a wire electrode for electrical discharge machining with a functional surface layer. This coating has a major influence on the EDM process.

It can support energy transfer, material removal, flushing behavior, process stability and the achievable surface quality. Compared with conventional plain brass wire, coated EDM wires can offer advantages in cutting performance, precision or cost efficiency depending on the application.

bedra has developed several generations of coated EDM wires, including zinc-coated wires, gamma-phase wires, TRIMPAC® technology and blac technology. The right selection depends on machine type, workpiece material, contour, taper cutting, desired surface finish and productivity target.

This makes the coating a key factor in modern wire EDM.
