Fine wire

Fine wire

Fine wire is an extremely thin wire with a diameter typically below 0.1 mm. Due to its delicate structure, it is used wherever maximum precision, minimal tolerances, and exact electrical or mechanical properties are required—such as in microelectronics, medical technology, sensor systems, measurement and control engineering, and micromechanics.

Fine wires are manufactured in diameters ranging from 0.008 mm to approximately 0.1 mm. Dimensional accuracy is crucial: manufacturing tolerances often lie within the micrometer range (±0.001 mm or tighter), depending on the material and intended application.

Fine wire is used across many high-tech industries, including:

  • Microelectronics: windings in micromotors, miniature coils, contact filaments
  • Medical technology: stents, guide wires, probes, hearing aids
  • Sensor & measurement technology: strain gauges, thermocouples, micro-sensors
  • Watchmaking: balance springs, delicate drive mechanisms
  • Aerospace: lightweight high-performance connections
  • Heating & control systems: ultra-fine wire for micro heating elements

Due to the small diameters, special requirements apply to:

  • Spooling techniques & winding (e.g. random or precision wound)
  • Surface treatments (e.g. annealed, electroplated, insulated)
  • Cleanroom conditions during production and processing
  • Special packaging to prevent bending or corrosion

Berkenhoff manufactures fine wire with the highest precision. Thanks to state-of-the-art drawing technologies and rigorously tested alloys, our fine wires offer:
