Elongation at break

Elongation at break

The elongation at break (A) describes the deformation capacity of a material and indicates the permanent elongation of a tensile specimen after breakage in relation to the initial gauge length. It is always given as a percentage.

For round specimens, the elongation at break is often specified with the indices A5 or A10, depending on the initial gauge length used.
