Aluminium bronze

Aluminium bronze is a copper-based alloy typically containing 5 to 12 % aluminium. This material group is known for its excellent combination of mechanical strength, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance. The aluminium content contributes to the formation of a dense, protective oxide layer, which enhances its durability in demanding environments.

Key properties

  • High strength and hardness – Aluminium bronzes are significantly stronger than pure copper and many other copper alloys, making them suitable for high-stress components.
  • Outstanding corrosion resistance – Especially effective in seawater, industrial atmospheres, and a wide range of chemicals.
  • Good sliding and wear behavior – Even under harsh conditions such as saltwater exposure, abrasive environments, or elevated temperatures.
  • Low magnetic permeability – Ideal for applications requiring non-magnetic materials.
  • Excellent thermal stability – Mechanical properties are retained even at elevated operating temperatures.
