Producing, Repairing and Recycling of products in material-mix-construction

In the joint research project Mischverbindungen (Material mix composition), originated of the project PROREMIX, a process chain is developed for the entire life cycle of individualized and variant-rich material-mix-components. It is based on a material and joining technology that allows for reliable and economical production of material-mix-joints. Therefore, it would be possible to re-work these joints in repair shops utilizing simplified equipment and process technology. Additionally, this tech-nology would allow the materials to be separated by type at recycling companies.
St /Al, Ti /Al and St /St joints (low-strength with high-strength) are joined by plasma-laser and plasma-MIG-brazing. All processes are carried out without flux – the oxide layers are to be broken up by the plasma. For possible repairs throughout the product life cycle, a manual coldArc-brazing process is developed and implemented in a ro-bust design with a highly integrated control for use in shop floor environments. At the end of its life cycle, the dissimilar metal joints shall then be separated thermally while taking advantage of the significantly different melting points of the joining materials and filler metals yet to be developed. The objective is to reclaim the respective metal fraction in a largely unmixed condition.

As a partner of this project, bedra will develop new bercoweld® Cu-wire alloys to meet the requirements of this material-mix. These alloys which will have to be newly developed are designed to avoid the often occurring phenomenon of filler metal penetration when joining with reduced heat input and at the same time, allow for transmitting higher forces.
